Harpswell Maine Theatrical Offering
A new summer theatrical offering—The Belle of Amherst—is being co-sponsored by the Harpswell Garden Club, the Harpswell Recreation Department, and the Harpswell Historical Society. It is to be held at the historical Centennial Hall in Harpswell. After a very successful run in California, Marion Jeffery will be coming to Maine to offer this one-actor award-winning play on the life and work of Emily Dickinson. An inspiring biographical sketch of one of America’s greatest literary figures, we are welcomed by Emily to her home in Amherst in 1883 and learn about her perspectives on being a woman in 19th Century New England and about her struggles to become a published poet.
Evening performances (7:30 pm) on July 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28 and 29 and matinees (2:00 pm) on July 17 and 24. The opening night performance and reception (7:00 pm) held on July 12, especially for the Garden Club, family, friends and co-sponsors, will feature a chat with the actress after the show. Tickets can be purchased in advance ($15) on the theater website (www.theater1876.com), at the Vegetable Corner, C. Periwinkle & Co. and Ship-2-Shore Store on Route 123, Zach’s General Store, Gun Point Cove Gallery and Bailey Island General Store on Route 24, or the Gulf of Maine Book Store in Brunswick.
