The 2011 Harpswell Duck Race is an exciting new Harpswell tradition. This off-the-dock fundraiser incorporates all the best qualities: Sun, Surf, Sand and Rubber Ducks!
The event raises much-needed funds for Harpswell Island School’s Parent-Teacher Organization (http://hispto.weebly.com/), which in turn will be funneled into the new Harpswell Community School PTO. The PTO uses the money they raise to fund programs such as mini-courses, field trips, technology purchases and facility upgrades at the Harpswell Islands School.
The 2011 Harpswell Duck Race takes place on Saturday June 4, 2011 at 2 pm the Great Island Boat Yard on Great Island in Harpswell.
You can help support the health of your community! Instead of the usual raffle tickets, attendees are asked to sponsor rubber ducks! You get to name your duck and wish it well, before it is tossed off the docks with hundreds of friends, into the waves to race to the finish line. On Saturday, approximately 500 baby ducks (the traditional size rubber duck) turn the tides yellow as they race to the finish line! The first 4 baby ducks to cross the finish line win their sponsors a prize.
Participants will also enjoy music by the Pan Fried Steel Drum Band and food and beverages being sold by HIS students and parents.
